
PURPOSE
The NEBOSH International General Certificate in Health and Safety is a globally recognised qualification held by more than 90,000 health and safety practitioners in 167 countries.
The qualification is designed for managers, supervisors, worker representatives and others who require an understanding of health and safety principles and practices.
The qualification is relevant to every workplace. Having the IGC is good for career prospects as it boosts a person’s standing in their current role and can help them progress.
NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health is offered by VHNZ in association with SHEilds Ltd, accredited NEBOSH Centre 548.

COURSE OUTLINE
The NEBOSH International General Certificate is split into two units of study delivered via e-learning, each of which is assessed separately. The programme is delivered as follows:
UNIT IG1: MANAGEMENT OF HEALTH AND SAFETY
*Assessed by Examination (IG1) Two hours arranged by SHEilds
- Why we should manage workplace health and safety
- How health and safety management systems work and what they look like
- Managing risks – understanding people and processes
- Health and safety monitoring and measuring.
UNIT IG2: RISK MANAGEMENT
*Assessed by a Practical assessment IG2 Three hours arranged by SHEilds
- Physical and psychological health
- Musculoskeletal health
- Chemical and biological agents
- General workplace issues
- Workplace equipment
- Fire
- Electricity.
ASSESSMENT
Assessment will consist of one short report and one written examination.
Examinations are available in the months of March / June/ September / December each year. This will be managed by SHEilds. The report is to be completed with SHEilds in the two weeks leading up to each examination.
Assessments are offered and must be completed in English. A short report is required and must be completed in English. Due to the demands of learning online, a high level of literacy is expected of learners on this course.
