Purpose
This course is designed to train and qualify experienced personnel to prepare for and conduct assessments against unit standards in the workplace, complete assessment administration, and review completed assessments and assessment practice.
The course emphasises the use of assessment to continually improve training and assessment practice, as much as providing a means of judging competence.
It will focus on ensuring the collection and sufficiency of valid evidence to assure judgements of competency. It provides appropriate training and qualification for anyone engaged as a workplace assessor: For example, as an on-the-job or Industry Training Organisation (ITOI) assessor.
Course Objectives
- Prepare for and conduct assessment.
- Complete assessment administration, and
- Review the assessment practice.
Course Duration
One day (Followed by workplace evidence to be submitted to the VHNZ Assessor)
Our teaching method:
This course will consist of a one-day classroom-based session followed by completion of assessments of trainees in the candidates own workplace. The workplace assessments will provide the evidence for assessment of the candidate’s competence.
Course Structure
Due to requirements of the unit standard within this course, the course is structures as a one-day face to face training session followed by real assessments completed by the trainee on people in their workplace. These completed workplace-based assessments will be submitted to the VHNZ trainer for marking.
SPECIAL NOTES:
Unit standard 4098 requires trainee to conduct authentic assessments in the workplace and provide the following supporting evidence:
- Model Answers / marking schedules / judgment statements for each type of assessment used.
- Pre moderation reports.
- Two or more marked assessments with comments/feedback.
- Evidence that results have been recorded internally - Training Records etc.
Note: These must be two or more different assessments totalling four or more credits. Your trainer can provide guidance on day one of the course to acceptable assessments and credit equivalents.
The evidence above must be returned to the trainer within three weeks from the start date of the course (or as mutually agreed between all parties).
During the course there will be time set aside to provide clear guidance in unpacking and preparing for this homework task. For a small fee, VHNZ is able to provide approved assessments for the purpose of this project or you may provide your own, however, keep in mind if you provide your own assessments there must be two or more assessments totalling four or more credits. Any workplace assessments used for training purposes will not be submitted to NZQA as they are solely for the purpose of unit standard 4098 assessment requirements.
